Our Policies

Hands-On Classes

All of our classes are hands-on or partially hands-on. Classes last up to five hours and have a maximum capacity of 10 students. (Note: capacities vary for private events.)

Footwear

We have hard concrete floors and work with pots of boiling water and hot fat. For protection against slips and spills it is mandatory that all participants wear rubber soled, non-slip, full coverage (toes, top of foot, heal) shoes. Proper footwear is required for participation.

Dietary Allergies, Sensitivities, and Restrictions

We frequently cook with nuts and common food allergens in our kitchen. If a participant has a food allergy, sensitivity or other dietary restriction, please check with us in advance of booking to see if an accommodation can be made. Adjustments cannot be made during a class.

Sanitation

We require all participants to practice common kitchen sanitation protocols. This includes frequent hand washing, refraining from touching fingers to face, nose, and mouth, and general food safety practices.

Age Requirements

The minimum age requirement for all classes is 18 years or older, unless otherwise indicated. Students younger than 18 must be approved to take a class. Please email dana@thebarnatstillhousecreek.com in advance of booking if you would like to bring a guest younger than 18 years of age. If approved, all students younger than 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Alcohol is served in our 18 and over classes and cannot be consumed by minors. Failure to comply will result in immediate removal from the class.

Alcohol

Unless otherwise noted, one glass of wine will be served with the seated meal to participants of drinking age. (We have occasional wine education classes wherein smaller portions of multiple wines are tasted.) No alcohol will be served until the kitchen knives have been put away. We do not allow outside alcohol.

Outside Food and Beverages

We aim to keep you well fed and hydrated throughout class and do not allow outside food or beverages. Self service water, coffee, and tea are available throughout every program.

Leftover Food

Food prepared in class must be consumed on the premises. Due to county and insurance regulations, we cannot allow any leftover food to be taken home after the program.

Health and Wellness

Our participants stand shoulder-to-shoulder preparing food together. No one wants to get sick. Please request a credit toward a future class if you are ill, coughing, sneezing, and/or have had a temperature above 99 within 48 hours of attending a class.

Location

Our school is located in a wilderness area. Access to our school is via a one lane gravel road. Please maintain your speed under 10 mph and be respectful to the local community. Help us keep the wildlife safe by looking out for birds, turtles and snakes on the road. Access does not require all-wheel drive.

Accessibility

Our school is by reservation only and is not open to the public. If you have accessibility needs please contact us before booking a program.

Weather Related Schedule Changes

We are located in a wilderness area, and it is not unusual for wind, rain, or snow to cause occasional power outages. In the event of a same-day power outage in advance of a class, all participants will be issued a credit for a future class. If a power outage occurs during the class we will proceed with cooking on the gas powered appliances using portable lanterns.

Refunds

Our class staffing and food prep is based on attendance. If you need to cancel a class, please do so at least 72 hours prior to the class to receive a refund or credit toward another class. Refunds are not available for cancellations made less than 72 hours before the class. If you are unable to attend a class or event for which you have enrolled, you may give your tickets to friends or family. Please email dana@thebarnatstillhousecreek.com to let us know who will attend in your place and inform us of any food allergies, sensitivities or restrictions (see policy above).
